| March 1 and 2nd were incredible nights, at the most extraordinary theaters playing with the talented cast and crew of BURLESQUE TO BROADWAY at the historic State Theaters in New Brunswick,NJ March 1 and Easton,PA March 2! I am still flying high! The audience was on fire! So were we! This is the view of the house at The State Theatre in Easton,PA from where we perform on stage! It is incredible. Built in 1921,it is restored to it’s splendor! The most amazing crew! What an audience! Standing O’s! We loved every minute of it!
This is Saturday March 2nd after the show at The State Theatre,Easton,PA
These venues were a perfect setting for Burlesque To Broadway! The State in Easton was built in 1926. Both of them, legends have played these stages! You could feel the ghosts presence! Literally! FREDDY,the resident ghost at The State Theatre,Easton,PA visited me and my girls last Saturday night!!!!! The State Theatre has a resident ghost,Freddy, was a house manager in the 1940′s evidently likes to visit performers on occasion in Easton,PA. If he likes a performer,he leaves copper pennies from the 1940′s head side up in places the performer has been.
We were teching the show in the afternoon and I said that,“I’ve got a boa for Freddy so I know we are going to have a good time tonight”I went to my dressing room after rehearsal to get into hair and make up and on the floor in front of my make up mirror on the floor, head side up was a penny from 1944! The crew was ecstatic, they said it’s an honor, that he doesn’t appear very often!!! It’s good luck! Then after the actual show,my co-stars,Amanda Brantley and Sara Brophy ran into my dressing room with a penny head side up from the 40′s on their dressing table!!!! I guess Freddy LOVED the show! I just got an email from my dresser,Suzan at The State. She said that Kenny Rogers played there this past Saturday and has played there over a dozen times and has wanted Freddy to visit him! They came to the realization that only one male has received a penny from Freddy! Apparently Freddy loves the ladies!!!! Here is a picture of my Freddy Penny that I will cherish forever! Thank you Freddy!!!!!!
Signing autograph’s and meet and greeting in Easton after the show! We got some audience members up on stage to do the bump n grind! This is from the wings in New Brunswick! There are alot of bumper grinders out there!!! We love it!
The brilliant publicist and marketing department in Easton put me on cupcakes! It was delicious too! Perfect for my producer,Paul Horton’s birthday!!!!!
Thanks to my talented and amazing company,(as pictured above in our meet n greet) Amanda Brantley (Gracie) Luis Villabon (Dance Captain and Creative Consultant) Moi,Merete Muenter (Choreographer) and Sara Brophy (Raz) –it’s all in the bevel! Not pictured is the incredible Wendall Goings (costumes),Jamibeth Margulles (casting director) W Brent Sawyer (my kitten on the keys and musical director extrodinaire) my sizzling band with some of the greatest cats on Broadway and in jazz and my INCREDIBLE producer,Paul Horton,Century Artists Management Agency, who made this girl’s dream come true!
Thank you State Theatres New Brunswick,NJ and Easton PA You and your staff’s make MAGIC! Burlesque Quinn Lemley “Teases”To Perfection http://popculturecage.blogspot.com/
My earliest recollection of what burlesque was came from the classic movie “Gypsy”(1962),starring Natalie Wood &Rosalind Russell. Then I saw it on Broadway over and over again. To date,it’s my favorite musical. The seed was planted and I was hungry to learn more about this art form. Ironically I was learning about it in fragments of things I seem to be drawn to (Bette Midler,Fanny Brice,Florenz Ziegfeld,Bob Fosse’s choreography, fashion influenced by Bettie Page,Fredericks of Hollywood and the multiple film homage’s,such as:Lili St. Cyr in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”;later “Chicago”and in 2010 “Burlesque”. Recently I found out that even in Union City,NJ,there was burlesque:“the Hudson house”,blocks from where I grew up;sadly gone by the time we arrived from Cuba. There has been a heavy resurgence regarding burlesque starting in 1992 with Dita Von Teese. Sparking such designers as Jean Paul Gautier Vivienne Westwood,Victoria’s Secret and La Perla to drape -and at times cinch- their models with burlesque influenced fashion. Thank you Quinn Lemley for being the next to carry the “teasing”torch using the costumes of feathers, sequins and tassels &making them “pop”through words, music and dance, making all of us want more, more, more! Ms. Lemley reminds the audience,“It’s all about the tease”! Her show puts the tease back in striptease. It’s alluring. The show’s visuals make the heart happily palpitate (and maybe a few other organs as well-lol). While educating the audience with the history of this genre,Quinn Lemley in “Burlesque to Broadway” keeps this form of entertainment current without losing any of its integrity. . I think Lemley’s strength in many of the shows she has starred in (“The Heat Is On”for one about Rita Hayworth) is her captivating ability to educate her audience about the subject while simultaneously and fully entertaining her guests:“Let her entertain you,Let her make you smile”. As big as the majestic “State Theater”is Quinn embraces the audience in a way that makes it feel personal. What a gift! Another thing that makes Quinn Lemley unique is her personal affiliation to burlesque. It’s informative and riveting! The choreography is top notch-as always. The band? Amazing! Her two “girls”are pure talent. A beautiful compliment to Lemley and she is generous in allowing them to shine (a sign of a secure and true professional). The show may have been performed in New Brunswick,NJ but the feel was totally Broadway. There was no skimping here in quality or quantity. While that Friday the country was worrying about the political/financial sequester those of us howling &enjoying “Burlesque to Broadway” were transported to the famous burlesque house,“Minsky’s”,where Lemley channeled all the greats from Mae West to Gypsy Rose Lee. http://popculturecage.blogspot.com/

Hi Bumper Grinders, We just flew in (and “Boy are our arms tired!”) from a fabulous tour of Iowa,South Carolina and Florida! It has been an exhilarating time, offering all of us a wonderful opportunity to perform on spectacular stages, play to thrilling audiences with incredible musicians and meet extraordinary people in the various communities! I believe a picture is worth a thousand words so here is our blog of our ADVENTURE! "Can't you feel the energy in this theater?" Our first stop was to fly into Des Moines,IA,where it had just snowed! It was stunning! Like a winter wonderland! We rented a van,but soon realized our company and show has grown,so we had to split up into two vehicles! I guess,Wendall Goings, our amazing costume designer has expanded our feathers! We drove through cornfields and very straight roads in the middle of NOWHERE until we got to our destination,FAIRFIELD,IOWA! Fairfield is a remarkable town of 10,000 people. It is famous for it’s Maharishi University that specializes in transcendental meditation. Oprah just did a piece on it! After traveling since 4 am,we had a delicious lunch at Top of The Rock (who also did our catering- delish!- Food is soooo important when on the road! Thank you Top of the Rock!) then straight to the theatre! The Stephen Sondheim Center is a jewel! A fantastic state of the art theater. Rustin Lippincott, our promoter and his team were amazing! We were sold out with standing ovations! Our friend Dee Dee came all the way to Iowa from Colorado with her boyfriend after seeing us in Seattle last Feb! That was INCREDIBLE! Touching! A packed sold out house in a town of 10,000 to come out dressed up,ready for a good time is remarkable! We had a blast! We stayed at a gorgeous inn,The Seven Roses Inn,our hosts Bob and Connie made us feel special and welcome! We especially loved the Dynasty pink spa and hot tub and the incredible scones! The Stephen Sondheim Center,Fairfield,IA Here is a quote from the executive director,Rustin Lippencott “BURLESQUE TO BROADWAY brought energy and excitement to the Sondheim Center! Quinn Lemley lit up the stage and her voice was purely amazing!!!! The sequins and feathers brought the glitz and glam of a Vegas production direct from Broadway. This is a celebration of our ladies that Southeast Iowa audiences will remember for years to come! Phenomenal!” Sondheim Center for the Arts,Rustin Lippincott Quinn Lemley in Burlesque To Broadway - "Here I am!!" Then off to Columbia,SC to get to The Newberry Opera House in Newberry,South Carolina. We were delayed in Chicago,so it took a full day to get there! The next morning I was back in Columbia doing the Morning Show on Fox with Tyler Ryan. He is FANTASTIC! Great interviewer! Here is a link to the interview: Burlesque To Broadway with Tyler Ryan on Fox\’s Morning Show It’s always a thrill to get to do a great interview! I was so excited because I had a great interview on Fox with Tyler on Monday and on Tuesday morning the executive director,Debra Smith of the Opera House, hosted me on her radio show in Newberry! Debra is a wonderful interviewer and knows EVERYTHING about theater, culture about everything! Especially how to run a fantastic theater! W Brent Sawyer, our musical director and “Kitten on the Keys”and I got a tour of Carter and Holmes, the largest hybrid orchard growers in SC! We had a blast seeing all of these stunning orchids. Mr Holmes SR,who is on the board of the Opera House gave us a tour personally! When we do our fan dance we feel like those beautiful exquisite flowers! What amazes me,is that these theaters promote the economy and vitality of these communities from restaurants, shops to industry! They are all vital to the economy! Support the arts! My Kitten on the Keys,Musical Director,W Brent Sawyer and Quinn Lemley Finally off to the theater, another masterpiece! A turn of the century (1890′s) jewel! It was like stepping back in time,it is so intimate and exquisite! Debra presents almost 300 shows a year in a community of 10,000 people! Her staff and crew are incredible,a delight to work with! From the stage of the Newberry Opera House,SC - What a thrill! We had a great rehearsal Tuesday night and Wednesday geared up for two shows! I tell ya,the South does not miss a beat! People came from all over! We sold out our evening show, standing ovations, the crowd didn’t miss a beat with the jokes! Again sold out for two shows in a community of 10,000 people is incredible! Some people that came to the matinee returned for the evening show! The chairman of the board came to the matinee and told everyone they had to come to the show! –We only had a few seats left, then sold out! There was a woman who used to be a Burlesquer, formally known at “Lili Marlene”who had a history book of Burlesque where she was featured! She had the girls and I sign her chapter! She was STUNNING in her prime! We were so honored that she would want US to sign HER photo! In Between Shows at the Newberry Opera House,SC - Natalie Loftin Bell,Quinn Lemley and McClain Kitchens Tech-ing the show in SC –Miss Mary on lights ROCKED the house! Miss Mary on Lights at Newberry Opera House ROCKS! How can I not feel fab? Like I said, this was a testament that the theaters bring together a community, because of the theater, they had first class gourmet restaurants like Steven W’s (he sent us the most amazing desert sampling and stayed open late so we could dine after the rehearsal! We felt so welcome, and well fed! And Delewaters! Did you know that grits and lobster are popular in the South? Mmmm! They were packed because of our show! Food and Music is the spice of life! The girls and I had to do the excessive bumping grinding and shimmey-ing to enjoy all of the Southern Hospitality!!! Thank God,our choreographer,Merete Muenter whipped us into shape in rehearsals! Her choreography is so much fun! MY GIRLS! The fabulous McClain Kitchens as Raz The Sexy and Vivacious Natalie Loftin Bell as Gracie We were on a high as we packed our sequins, feathers and fans for a 3:30 am departure for West Palm Beach,Florida where we had a series of private performances in Southern,Florida. Even Steve the manager of my FAVORITE hotel,The Chesterfield in Palm Beach came with his family. McClain Kitchens as Raz What’s not to love about Palm Beach? Again standing ovations and wonderful venues and Palm Beach and Bocca sold out! It was wonderful to be in the sun and on the beach and strolling Worth Avenue on our days off,the highlight was celebrating our producer,Paul Horton’s birthday together Al Fresco next to the ocean under the stars at Testa’s,one of Palm Beach’s oldest restaurants. Burlesque to Broadway delivered on all of its promises;beautiful girls, great costumes, fantastic numbers, corny / timeless jokes,a great retrospective of the amazing women who went from Burlesque to Broadway and Beyond and a fantastic ten piece band that was worth the price of the admission themselves. From the first night, audiences were on their feet with standing ovations, and as the word spread throughout the community demand for the show grew substantially, making Burlesque to Broadway the highest attended event at the Kelowna Community theatre in all of 2011. Even though this is a very sexy show,it is done with a taste and class that is as appealing to Grandma and Grandpa as it is to the younger members of the family. Filled with great choreography, show tunes, popular songs and the humor and history of Burlesque and Broadway, this is show is a hit. Great job Quinn,Natalie,Jane,Paul and everyone else involved! Randy Zahara,Kelowna Community Theatre Manager I used to be snow white but I drifted! All a girl needs is a fan! The Clam “There seems to be a shortage today of those glitzy and glamorous Broadway show tunes that so many people loved back in the good old days,of women dancing about the stage in flashy and suggestive costumes backed by the catchy music of a ten piece band. Burlesque to Broadway brings back the feeling of these long forgotten attractions, not just with the feathery and sequinned costumes, but with the beautiful harmonies and excellent choreography that attracted people to these shows so long ago. The stunning actresses….Quinn Lemely,Jane Bunting and Natalie Loften Bell…..and the highly skilled 10 piece band bring many classic songs back to life, but with an added touch of individuality inspired from many years of practice and refinement. Some people may believe that a show such as Burlesque to Broadway is not for them, but trust me when I say, this awesome show has a little something to offer everyone, regardless of musical interests. From the hit She’s a Lady by Tom Jones to the Mel Brooks Song Flaunt It,Burlesque to Broadway keeps the favourites flowing. The six show run in Kelowna,BC,Canada from November 1 – 5 attracted crowds of all kinds, from high school students to seniors, and many numbers were met by standing ovations of roaring applause, hoots and whistles. Quinn Lemely was fabulous with her demure sense of humour and uncanny imitation of a broadway starlet with a voice of gold and the body of a dancer….she was brilliant and vivacious! And ‘her’ girls ….Raz and Gracie…two beautiful, talented and spirited young women who added variety and spice while on stage with the ‘Red Hot Mama’!! They made us smile, they made us laugh, they made us tap our toes…but most of all they made us remember a time not so long ago where feathers and boas and sequins prevailed….and entertained a nation!!” Keith and Colleen Jerczynski Kaelen Singbeil, PACKING THE HOUSE PRODUCTIONS,Presenters Kelowna,BC Apres Show Women of all ages dressed up,got their girlfriends together or dragged their guys for a night of celebration with B to B What an amazing week in Canada at the Kelowna Community Theatre!
